The Fire Control System (FCS) of the German battleship Bismarck was among the most advanced of its era. The core of this system consisted of rangefinding stations equipped with 10.5-meter stereoscopic rangefinders, mounted on tower-like superstructures. The remarkable precision of these instruments allowed the Bismarck to strike the British battlecruiser HMS Hood from an immense distance during its maiden engagement, leading to its destruction. These devices served as the "eyes" of the ship, enabling accurate fire even in the challenging weather conditions of the Atlantic.
