The North American F-86 Sabre is an American single-seat turbojet fighter that was considered a worthy opponent of the MiG-15 during the Korean War.
The prototype F-86, powered by a Chevrolet J35-C-3 engine, first flew in October 1947. The aircraft entered service in 1949. The F-86 was the first production fighter capable of exceeding the speed of sound.
The North American F-86 Sabre was the main US fighter during the Korean War, capable of competing and successfully opposing the MiG-15. The combat loss ratio of the two machines is estimated to be 2:1 in favor of the American aircraft. The F-86 also participated in other conflicts: the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965 and the Bangladesh War of Independence of 1971.
