The North American F-86 Sabre is an American single-seat turbojet fighter. During the Korean War, it was considered a worthy rival to the MiG-15.
The prototype F-86, equipped with a Chevrolet J35-C-3 engine, made its first flight in October 1947, and the aircraft entered service in 1949. The F-86 became the first production fighter capable of exceeding the speed of sound.
The Sabre was the main US fighter during the Korean War, where it successfully competed with and defeated the MiG-15. It is estimated that the combat loss ratio of these two machines was 2:1 in favor of the F-86. The Sabre also participated in other conflicts: in the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965 and in the Bangladesh War of Independence of 1971.
